In 1985 I received a call in my SJU dorm room from a friend, Tom Grimmer, who I went to High School with in Prior Lake. Tom was playing the drums for a country band, Western Express, that played in the Brainerd and McGregor area in mid Minnesota. He asked me if I could fill in for him for a weekend and I was glad to take the gig. It turns out that he had already quit the band and after I showed up and did a good job the gig was mine. I played with these fine gentlemen for about two years. They knew over three hundred songs and we never used a set list...we just had to be ready for anything that Jerry wanted to play. Great fun!
